Making the Business Case

Fall 2022

Course Description: "How do market forces shape the way we live, work, and even play? Students in this course look at business through a designer’s eye to understand the interplay between producers and consumers, governments and people, stockholders and stakeholders, man and the environment, and how all of these factors interconnect and ultimately direct how our products, processes, and systems are created. Students gain an understanding of the implications of their decisions, how to identify risk areas, long-term thinking strategies, and best practices for sustainable business models through weekly exercises, special projects, and the creation of a business plan."

Sustainability Focus: Sustainable business models.

Final Project Objective: Create a business proposal for a “Public Art Farm,’ a multifaced business that supports the creation os public art from concept to end-of-life. The Public Art Farm pairs the artist with the ideal team for their project. The teams are gathered based on the scope and location of the public art installation. The Public Art Farm will also work with this team to finalize the check list for the project, like needed permits or researching an alternative material that is more sustainable than the normally used material.
